The Papal Visit Memorabilia

Most people in Ireland will be aware of the pope’s visit on August

Arriving on Aug 25th he will initially meet the president, Michael D Higgins in Áras a Úachtaráin, then on to Dublin Castle for a meeting with diplomats, civil society and authorities where he will make a speech. He will visit St Mary’s Pro-Cathedral and the Capuchin Father’s Day Care Centre and finally on the Croke Park for the Festival of Families.

On Sunday he will visit Knock and return to the Phoenix Park to celebrate mass before he leaves Ireland.

The last papal visit was by Pope John Paul ii in 1979 when the streets of Dublin became a sea of moving people coming to honour his presence. Little has changed in the Catholic Church teachings in the interim but Irish society has evolved and there are now many who seek acknowledgement of wrongdoing by both church and state. This will make this visit of Pope Frances somewhat different to the last papal visit.
