Trick or Treating is a much loved Halloween ritual for children all over the world, and Ireland is no exception. Children just love dressing up in the most unusual and spooky costumes (the spookier the better!) and visiting houses in the vicinity asking for treats (usually candy). In Ireland, when dressed in costumes, children are given various treats which are not limited to just candy, such as chocolates, nuts, fruits, etc. In some places, children are expected to perform a trick, sing a song, and recite a poem, etc., if they are expected to get a treat. Some children do a performance (Trick) and collect money only (Treat) which is then donated to a worthy cause.
Where to go Trick or Treating?
Trick or Treating in Ireland can be done in a variety of places. Kids love to dress up as a creepy zombie or a storybook witch and have a lot of fun. The most visited places for trick or treating in Ireland are the houses or apartments in the neighborhood. It is advisable to only solicit treats from those residences that have Halloween decorations outside, as traditionally it meant that they were prepared to give out the treats. Visiting relatives and friends homes will definitely also be on the agenda for trick or treating children.
Many local community groups organise events during Halloween where anyone can join for a fun trick or treating time. Another place to go trick or treating could be the neighborhood shops that are open during Halloween or a party in the community area.
Wherever you plan to go Trick or Treating in Ireland in 2017, there is no doubt that it will be a lot of fun!
